Some people perceive fog as mysterious, intimidating, or even frightening because it symbolizes the unknown. You can't see what's within the fog until it's right in front of you. This might be your perspective, and it's why I created the fog series, as I believed I could reveal the concealed, soothing beauty overshadowed by fears.
Every time I wake up to a foggy morning, I feel a surge of excitement because I know amazing photo opportunities are ahead. Today, the fog was especially dense, so I headed to the fields at 6 a.m., anticipating the tranquillity and serenity. With my headphones on and soothing music playing as it always helps me focus, I embarked on my exploration of the misty scenery.
The first element that appeared was the tree in the image above; I could hardly make it out from a distance and decided it would be my first photo here. As soon as I got closer, I adjusted my viewfinder to include some overhanging branches in the shot and ensured the tree was in perfect focus. When I reviewed the photo I had just captured, I knew the fog series would be born.
The fog instills a sense of serene calm in me; instead of causing concern, it enhances my concentration and allows me to truly experience the morning air. This only deepens my passion for the outdoors and intensifies my focus on photography.
As time went on, early morning dog walkers started to appear from the misty surroundings, and luckily, I was in the ideal spot to photograph one! I titled this image "All the Lonely People," drawing inspiration from the Beatles song "Eleanor Rigby."
I feel that the bench contributes to a sense of loneliness in the image, as it sits empty, facing the man, as if inviting someone weary from the foggy solitude to take a seat and rest. I find this is my favourite picture from the series as it really captures something emotionally powerful to me, and I aim to make all my photos have that deep feeling effect on you too.
Weather can really change the overall feel of images for landscape photographers as it significantly influences not only the lighting conditions but also the mood and atmosphere captured in a photograph. Different weather patterns create unique environments that can evoke a wide range of emotions and interpretations.
I was thrilled with the feedback on my fog series posts on Instagram, which you can view at "nb_landscapephotography." I believe I successfully highlighted the hidden beauty of misty photography and conveyed a sense of calm to the audience.
I encourage you all to go and try your own shots in the fog and let me know how you get on!
Thank you for giving me the chance to change your perspective, and have a great day, everyone!
